Neighbors Heartbroken After 12-Year-Old Shot; teenager arrested

MILWAUKEE — A 12-year-old was killed in a shooting Saturday afternoon near North 48th Street and W. Center Street in Milwaukee.

Milwaukee police said a 15-year-old boy was taken into custody in connection with the shooting. The District Attorney’s Office will review the charges in the coming days.

“It broke my heart to know it was a child,” said neighborhood neighbor Precious Pulley. “Nobody wants to bury their child, especially because of violence.”

As Pulley watched police tape a crime scene a few doors down from her own home, she was reminded of the advice she gives her children.

“Be careful, don’t run down the street, respect everyone, and if you hear gunshots, fall to the ground,” Pulley shared.

However, she believes that despite the violence, the families who call the area home are peaceful. Pulley told TMJ4’s Tahlil Mohieldin that neighbors are trying to do their part and looking out for each other, but need help.

That’s why she and other neighborhood residents are asking police to be more active in their community.

“They don’t just come here to check on the kids,” Pulley explained. “When I was a kid they would give out baseball cards, we were happy to see the police.”

Milwaukee police said they are investigating the fatal shooting. Following the incident, the 12-year-old child was taken to a children’s hospital on Saturday but did not survive.

Milwaukee police also responded to two other unrelated fatal shootings on Saturday just before noon around N. 11th Street and W. Atkinson Avenue and another one nearby in the evening North 18th Street and West Capitol Dr.
