Agitation in the state

While New York is a reliably blue state and Democratic candidates usually win easily across the state due to the huge margin in New York, Trump continues to campaign in the state as he has held several other campaign events, including rallies in the Bronx and Nassau County on Long Island.

New York Polls

Several polls show tighter race this year than previous ones, with some polls even showing a clear presidential race, although forecasters have never considered New York particularly competitive.

However, Harris is still expected to easily lead the state, which is classified as a “safe Democrat” by the Cook Political Report. Harris leads Trump in New York by 14.5 points, 53.9 percent to his 39.4 percent as of Sunday, according to a FiveThirtyEight poll.

Last time New York supported republican in 1984, when she voted for Ronald Reagan. In 2016, former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton carried the state by 22 points when she ran against Trump, and Biden carried it by 23 points in 2020 against the former president.

However, there were signs that republicans New York is doing better. Beyond polls suggesting the race could be close, Republicans are hoping to repeat the gains they made during the 2022 midterm elections.

Although Democrats exceeding medium-term expectations in most states, New York was one of the few states to experience a red wave two years ago. Republicans won five of the state’s six competitive congressional districts. Additionally, the race for governor was closer than expected, with Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul winning by just 6.4 points over then-Representative Lee Zeldin.
