J.D. Vance confronts CNN’s Tapper for pushing Russia collusion narrative: Talked about it ‘non-stop’

During a controversial interview on CNN, Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance criticized host Jake Tapper and his network for a lack of “honesty” in their reporting on former President Trump, accusing them of promoting a Russian collusion narrative like if she were real.

The moment came after Vance and Tapper sparred. on charges from former White House chief of staff John Kelly that Trump once said he wanted generals like Hitler. Vance pointed out how the Tapper network has become obsessed with reporting on these kinds of anti-Trump claims, citing as an example CNN’s reporting on an alleged conspiracy between Trump and Russia to steal the 2016 election.

“A viewer of your channel might believe that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin colluded in 2016. It was a complete and absurd lie,” Vance said.

The conversation began with Vance declaring CNN’s integrity after refuting Kelly’s claims about Trump’s “fascist” impulses, which went viral earlier this week and were supported by the Harris campaign and other Democratic lawmakers.

“Step back a little. Look, ask yourself a basic question about network integrity. You guys talked non-stop about the Russian hoax,” Vance said.

Tapper defended CNN, saying, “It was investigated by the FBI. The FBI was investigating it, so we shut them down.”

Pointing his finger, the candidate responded, “And so you took the words of unnamed FBI agents and placed them on your network as if they were an undeniable truth.”

“You have done this over and over again,” he continued, calling the conspiracy allegations “false.”

“No,” the journalist replied. “What you just said is a lie. We covered the FBI investigation. I don’t know why you want to talk about the FBI investigation.”

Vance stood his ground, insisting: “You covered this in a way that confirmed the allegations of anonymous sources. You did it yourself. Your network did it, Jake.”

Despite Vance’s denial of the allegations during the interview, Tapper has been reporting for years about the Russiagate version until Special Counsel John Durham’s 2023 report on the investigation found that the FBI “failed to carry out its mission of strict fidelity to the law” in its conduct.

The report comes four years after special counsel Robert Mueller concluded his investigation into Trump-Russia collusion that resulted in no evidence criminal conspiracy or coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia to influence the 2016 election.

During the interview, Vance asked Tapper if they could talk about Trump’s policies rather than what he allegedly said.

“But again, can we talk about the issues that concern Americans most?” he asked.

Tapper responded: “I’m talking about what Donald Trump said… If you have a problem with whether he talks enough about the economy, that’s between you and your running mate. I’m talking about things he said this week. “

Vance went on to tell Tapper, “You guys seem to care more about Donald Trump’s past than the future of the American people.”
