Arsenal 2-2 Liverpool: Mikel Arteta ‘disappointed’ but draw probably fair

Arsenal’s match with Liverpool ended in a draw, and both clubs probably considered the result fair.

The Gunners dominated the first half and deservedly took the lead at the break. However, Liverpool returned to the game in the second half as Arsenal fell heavily while trying to defend their lead.

Manager Mikel Arteta said he was “very disappointed” that his side did not win the game and that his side “gave away” the two goals scored by Liverpool.

Arsenal currently have injury problems and the situation could have gotten worse in this match.

Centre-back Gabriel suffered a knee injury and Arteta said he “can’t run” and is still being assessed, which is far from ideal given the problems they already had in the back line.

Jurrien Timber, who was brought back into the squad after injury, was forced off with fatigue and captain Martin Odegaard is still missing although Arteta says he is “close” to returning.

Arsenal are five points off the top of the table and although it’s still early in the season, it feels like a long distance when the team at the top is Manchester City.
