HAWTHORN is on the cusp of winning the McClelland Trophy as the race for the $1 million prize draws to a thrilling conclusion.

Hawks’ stunning NAB AFLW season continues win over Narm by six points in Cairns on Thursday evening.

With the win, Hawthorn moved one step closer to winning the McClelland Trophy, which is awarded to the team with the best home and away season results in men’s and women’s competition.

Brisbane has assured that the race for the trophy will reach the final round after defeat of Sydney with 68 points on Sunday evening.

The Hawks trail the Lions by six points heading into the final round of the NAB AFLW campaign.

Daniel Webster’s side just need to avoid defeat by Richmond at the Swinburne Center on Sunday to lift the trophy.

However, Hawthorn could be under pressure ahead of this clash as the Lions take on Euro Iroc at RSEA Park in the first game on Sunday, giving them the opportunity to temporarily climb to the top of the McClelland Trophy ladder.

Yartapooulty was in mathematical odds heading into week nine, but the Power were eliminated despite a strong win over Gold Coast.

Wins in the men’s competition are worth four premiership points, while wins in the NAB AFL women’s competition are worth eight points in the McClelland Trophy rankings.
