Man seriously injured in shooting near fall festival

WEST PALM BEACH, FL. West Palm Beach police are investigating after a man was shot Sunday night.

Police spokesman Mike Jachles said officers at a nearby fall festival responded to the block in the 1600 block of North Australian Avenue.

The fall festival was held at the Gaines Park Community Center.

Fire and rescue crews transported the man to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition, police said.

It is unclear where the man was shot, and police said no other injuries were reported.

During the investigation Sunday evening, road closures were observed on Australian Avenue from North Magnolia Drive to 15th Street.

About an hour later, a second burst of shots was heard from the scene. Officers then responded to the 600 block of 10th Street around 7:30 p.m.

Jachles said no victims were found after that scene. At this time, police do not believe the shootings are related.
