Buzz Aldrin finally announces his support days before the presidential election

The second man to walk on the moon Buzz Aldrinsupported the former president Donald Trump for a second term.

In a lengthy statement on Wednesday The 94-year-old brigadier general said he was “impressed” with the first Trump administration’s efforts to promote “human space exploration” and how it “has again become a policy of high importance.”

Aldrin says Trump has “renewed” efforts to return to the moon and go to Mars. The astronaut praised the Trump administration for restoring the National Space Council “so that leading voices can advocate for the importance of space to America.”

He went on to say that U.S. defenses have been “strengthened.” with the creation of the Space Force, saying it was becoming “increasingly important as space becomes disputed territory.”

Aldrin also shared his excitement about the “great advances” in private spaceflight, calling billionaire Elon Musk a “visionary.” Musk was a prominent member of the Trump campaign and an active supporter.

“We face serious and difficult global security realities,” Aldrin added. “At home, we face serious economic challenges, stability in our communities, and challenges to the rule of law. For these and other reasons, we need a proven, no-nonsense, proven leader for the presidency.”

Aldrin said he believes Trump has the “understanding of human nature, clarity of judgment, decisiveness, knowledge, understanding and calm under pressure” necessary to lead the country.

“The job requires a clear-eyed analysis of scary scenarios and an instinct for decisive leadership,” he said.

“For me, for the future of our nation, for the enormous challenges ahead, and for the proven political achievements above, I believe the nation is best served by voting for Donald Trump. I fully support him for President of the United States. God bless President Trump and God bless the United States of America,” he concluded.

Aldrin was born in 1930 and is the last surviving crew member of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon, following the deaths of Michael Collins in 2021 and Neil Armstrong in 2012.

He completed three spacewalks, piloting the Gemini 12 mission in 1966, three years before the moon landing.

In 2019, Aldrin called on Trump to rename the Space Force. to something less antagonistic.

In June 2018, a new branch of the military was announced to be responsible for military operations in space.

“I thought for a while that a better title would be ‘Spaceguard,’ because it’s more contained,” Aldrin said Daily mail at that time.

“This is not a strike,” he added. “We have an aggressive strike force. “Space Guard is more defensive in nature, and I think that’s what people meant when they talked about Space Force.”

But Aldrin said he believed the creation of the War Department was “one giant leap in the right direction,” referring to the first words Armstrong spoke when he walked on the moon.
