Martin Brundle wants a flag BANNED from F1 in controversial approach that would change the sport forever

Martin Brundle has selected a flag in Formula 1 regulations that should be banned.

During his career, Brundle enjoyed two stints in F1, racing for teams including Williams, Brabham, Benetton, McLaren and Jordan.

Despite not having any Grand Prix victories to his name, the 65-year-old managed to finish on the podium nine times, collecting 98 points throughout his career.

Since his retirement, Brundle has been a popular figure as he plays a key role in Sky Sports’ F1 coverage.

Recently, Brundle took to Reddit to answer fan questions.

A fan asked: “Which rule(s) in F1 do you think are a bit ridiculous? Or, on the other hand, are there rules that you think should be imposed that currently aren’t? »

Brundle responded: “I think we should ban blue flags. I think drivers have lost the skills to deal with traffic, like we had to do before – I liked that! And now everyone has to move aside like schoolchildren when the grown-ups arrive in the fast cars.

“But the problem is that with today’s aerodynamics you may never get past the final markers. So things have changed a little bit, but I think it’s a skill that’s been lost. I think the rest was polished pretty well, to be honest. As for the cars, everything is fine, they are technical inspectors and they are well monitored for their integrity, safety and legality etc.

He added: “I think the races are a decent length. I would probably shorten the Singapore Grand Prix a bit, like we do in Monaco. Monaco is 260km away. I would probably do 280 km to Singapore. For all other races, most take place on the first full lap after 300 km. So, modify that a bit. But no, I am, I am calm as we are.

“I have never known Formula 1 as popular as it is today. So if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I would say that.

F1 will return this weekend with the United States Grand Prix, which will take place around the Circuit of the Americas.
