Peter Dutton ups the ante by promising $5 billion to build 500,000 homes in 5 years

Peter Dutton upped the ante on housing policy by pledging to spend $5 billion on water, sewer and other infrastructure enabling shovel-ready developments, with the aim of building up to 500 000 new homes in five years.

Launching his first major salvo before elections which are expected to be dominated by the fight for housing, the opposition leader also promised, if elected, to ban for 10 years any further changes to the National Construction Code in order to reduce compliance costs and delays.
