Cornell students banned from campus for three years for participating in protest

Cornell University imposed a three-year campus ban on four students involved in a pro-Palestinian protest that disrupted a career fair on September 18. The protest, which saw participants push past police to enter the Statler Hotel, led to the arrests of three students, including Atakan Deviren, a sophomore and co-president of the Young Democratic Socialists of America.

Jacob Berman, president of Cornell’s Jewish Voice for Peace, was also suspended but not arrested. The two students are appealing the university’s decision, which provides for automatic withdrawal from classes within three weeks if no appeal is filed.

These suspensions come amid increased tensions on campus, with several other students facing non-academic suspensions following the recent protests.
