Sanapei Tande revealed as judge for Bongo Star Search, winner to pocket KSh1.3 million

Popular Tanzanian talent competition, Bongo Star Search (BSS), has officially expanded its reach to Kenya, marking a significant milestone in its growth in East Africa.

The Kenyan edition of BSS was launched in Nairobi on Tuesday, October 22.

It provides a new platform for Kenyan artists to showcase their talents.

Why is Bongo Star Search a plus for Kenyans?

One of the highlights of the Kenyan edition is the inclusion of Sanaipei Tande, a famous Kenyan singer with two decades of experience in the music industry, as a judge.

She joins the show’s regular judging panel, including Salama Jabir, Master J and Rita Paulsen, the show’s founder and head judge.

During the launch at the StarTimes Kenya offices, Rita Paulsen, CEO of Benchmark Production Tanzania, announced that the auditions would take place on November 30 and December 1 at the Kenya National Theatre.

The competition offers a grand prize of USD 10,000 (KSh 1.3 million) to the overall winner of season 15.

Kenyan participants who advance will join top competitors from other countries in Dar es Salaam, and all expenses will be covered.

“We are here in Kenya to discover exceptional talent, and the whole process will be free of charge. We have successfully conducted similar searches in Uganda and other countries, and the top five candidates from Kenya will be flown to Dar es Salaam to compete with participants from other countries, all their expenses will be covered,” Paulsen explained. This expansion offers Kenyan artists a chance to be recognized both locally and regionally.

Myke Mwai, Head of Public Relations at StarTimes Kenya, said he was excited about the initiative, designed to discover and promote local talent, providing them with invaluable exposure and opportunities.

“We are delighted to present the Kenyan edition of Bongo Star Search,” said Mwai. “This is not just a competition; it is a platform where artists can shine and be recognized. We believe that Kenya is brimming with talent and we are committed to providing these artists with visibility and opportunities that they deserve.”

The winners of the Kenyan auditions will also benefit from an exclusive mentoring program in Tanzania, where they will hone their skills before the final showdown.

MC Kajim launches talent center for creatives

Elsewhere, radio host MC Jimmie Kajim launched Kajim Talent Hub to help young creatives monetize their talents through mentorship and digital exposure.
