Flint Golf Club Unveils World’s First Takeout Menu and Opens Kitchen to the Public

FLINT, MI – Flint Golf Club has launched its first takeout menu, opening its kitchen offerings to the public for the first time.

Members and Flint area residents can now enjoy club specialties without leaving home.

“We want to become more active partners in the community,” said Mark Gragg, president and CEO of Flint Golf Club. “It’s important for us to be here on the south side and be another option for the local community.”

Flint Golf Club is located at 3100 Lakewood Drive.

Another goal, Gragg explained, is that while the golf club remains private, the new takeout menu could attract more visitors by giving the public a chance to experience the club’s offerings and amenities.

Menu highlights include Detroit-style and thin-crust pizza, salads, wings, breadsticks and desserts.

The food is prepared by chef Grant Nagel, who said the pizzas are made from scratch with Michigan-sourced ingredients and brick cheese.

The 13 pans he uses to make Detroit-style pies are from the original Buddy’s Pizza and are 80 years old.

Nagel got the pans from a friend, and he says it gives the pizza a real flavor.

“They give the food that crispness that everyone knows from the Detroit style,” Nagel said. “We offer thin crust in three different sizes.”

According to Nagel, one of the best options is the smoked wings, and the sauces are made in-house.

Another popular seller is chicken tenders.

“We cut every chicken fillet by hand and sold over 7,000 pounds of chicken last year,” Nagel said. “This is a constant phenomenon. I tried to take them off the menu, and then they shouted at me.”

Nagel has been a chef for 34 years, previously working in Traverse City, Maple City and Glen Arbor.

“I learned how to cook Italian food from my short, fat Italian grandmother,” he said. “I started when I was two or three years old, with her in the kitchen.”

Nagel shared that launching a takeout menu is more than just a new service, it’s a way to connect with the community.

“I do this for the people here,” Nagel said. “Food brings people together; it never divides people.”

With this vision, Nagel hopes the club’s menu can bring families and friends closer together, even outside the golf club grounds.

“Food is a way to talk to people,” he said.

Flint Golf Club was founded over 100 years ago and offers a unique experience that extends far beyond the course.

With a meticulously manicured course, top-notch amenities and a welcoming, close-knit community, members will enjoy premium golf combined with exceptional dining and social events.

Every detail, from the picturesque grounds to the chef’s menu and newly renovated bar, is designed to create a memorable and exclusive atmosphere.

The club was visited by Flint historical figures such as philanthropist Charles Stuart Mott and automobile pioneer Jacob Smith Dort, and the championship course was designed by Willie Park Jr., a two-time Open Championship winner.

“We’re a hidden gem,” Gregg said. “A lot of people don’t know we’re here. There’s a lot of history here.”

With a specially designed menu now available for takeout, Flint Golf Club invites residents to enjoy a taste of its tradition and quality from the comfort of home.

“Ninety-five percent of our menu is based in Michigan,” Nagel said. “The aspect of freshness and locality makes a huge difference.”

The new takeaway delivery service is open from 3pm to 7pm, Tuesday to Sunday. Orders can be received by calling 810 743-6100 ext. 3.
