Bridgeton Police were called to the 600 block of Buckshutham Road around 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 15, 2024, for a report of multiple people kicking the front door of a home. When they arrived, they found Mosley suffering from a gunshot wound. Mosley, a detective sergeant with the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office, died from her injuries at the scene.

The investigation led officers to Inspira Hospital in Bridgeton and then New Jersey State Troopers to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where they detained a man who was being treated for a gunshot wound for questioning.

Investigators later identified Mutcherson, Brown, Willis and Pimentel as suspects in Mosley’s murder.

Mutcherson, Brown and Willis are charged with murder, burglary, criminal possession of a weapon and other related crimes.

Pimentel is charged with obstruction of an investigation, obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence.

“This is a significant step toward justice for Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley and her family,” said Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland. “We are determined to ensure that those responsible for this horrific act are brought to justice. Our hearts remain with Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley’s loved ones and colleagues at this incredibly difficult time.”

While all four suspects are in custody, the New Jersey State Police, Cape May County District Attorney’s Office and Bridgeton Police continue to investigate the incident. If you have any information about Mosley’s murder, call the Cape May County District Attorney’s Office at 609-465-1135.

“Forever Friend and Role Model”

Mosley began her career with the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office in 2006 as a paralegal. According to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae, she became a detective for the office in 2009 and worked in various divisions, including trial teams, the Special Victims Unit, the Community Justice Unit and the Internal Affairs Unit, where she was a unit supervisor.

“Sergeant Mosley was a constant friend and role model to all those with whom she served and led law enforcement in Cumberland County and beyond,” Webb-McRae wrote. “She will be missed more than words can describe, but her CCPO family will never forget her. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sergeant Mosley’s family at this most difficult time.”

Outside of work, Mosley was the proud mother of two daughters, grandmother to twin grandchildren, and dog owner.

“I used to see her every day when she came home,” Diane Sapp, Mosley’s longtime neighbor, told NBC10. “She was retreating, walking towards the mailbox. She got into the car and took her dog. It was her and her dog, this China. China is that. She loved China.”

Moseley’s longtime friend, Gary Walker Jr., described her as a woman who was “always smiling.”

“She was just a soft person inside and out,” he said. “And her smile, I will miss her fun.”

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy also released a statement regarding Mosley’s death earlier this month.

“I am outraged and heartbroken by the murder of Sgt. Monica Mosley, who was shot and killed during a home invasion in Bridgeton last night,” Governor Murphy wrote. “As a detective with the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office, Sergeant Mosley served his community with distinction, working every day to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents of Cumberland County. This act of violence affects our entire law enforcement community and all of New Jersey.”

New Jersey State Police, along with two other agencies, are investigating the death of a detective shot to death in her home. Family members were seen removing items from the victim’s home Thursday, but officials did not provide any new information. NBC10’s Leah Yuko has what we know.
