Nearly 100 New Housing Units Coming to East Jackson

LANSING, Mich. (WILKES) – We’ve talked about affordable housing in Jackson before, but the city says they’re not done yet.

94 is the total number of new housing units that will help revitalize the area and attract more residents. The houses will be built in a healthy area, close to many employment opportunities.

The city also plans to make two houses accessible to people with disabilities.

Apartments are also coming.

The former Allen Elementary School building is being converted into the Allen Lofts. It’s a $15 million project that includes 62 apartments and commercial space.

“Most of this housing will be built on vacant lots. We will see some duplexes, but most of them will be single-family homes,” said Aaron Dimmick, a spokesman for the city of Jackson.

“It will really revitalize this area of town.” Dimmick said, “Having more residents in the area will really improve the neighborhoods, but it will also encourage business development in the area.”

A groundbreaking new home building event is planned for next month.
