Major pizza chain recalls popular menu item due to contamination fears

An urgent product recall has been issued by a major pizza chain over fears contaminated popular dips could potentially cause a fatal allergic reaction.

Two products have been recalled over concerns they may contain traces of peanuts.

The major pizza chain, which has more than 450 branches across the UK, has urged anyone with a nut allergy to get rid of the items.

Even traces of peanuts are enough to cause anaphylactic shock in some people, which could kill them.

Papa John’s Garlic and Herb Dip and their Vegan Ranch Dressing have been removed from sale due to safety concerns.

A Papa Johns spokesperson said: “At Papa Johns, customer safety is our top priority.

“Some batches of our Garlic Herb Dip and Vegan Ranch Dressing may contain traces of peanuts. Our 25g dips are included with pizzas and we recently introduced a 100g version. If you are allergic to peanuts, please do not consume these dips and throw them away.

“Our Vegan Ranch Dressing, used on our products, may also contain traces of peanuts. If you are allergic to peanuts, avoid these products.

“We are working quickly to resolve this issue. In the meantime, we will replace the Garlic and Herb Dip with our Special Garlic Dip, which is not affected.

“For any questions or concerns please contact us at [email protected].

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.”

It comes after rival pizza chain Domino’s was forced to recall its Garlic & Herb and Honey Mustard Dips last month after customers complained of itchy mouths.

The dips contained ingredients sourced from family-run spice business FGS Ingredients Ltd in Leicester, which prides itself on having the “highest level of quality”.

Other products, including dips from Aldi and sandwiches from Spar, have been recalled due to tainted mustard powder which may have been contaminated with peanuts.

The FSA said: “FGS Ingredients Ltd is recalling several products containing mustard powder because they may contain peanuts.

“This means that these products pose a potential health risk to anyone with a peanut allergy.”

“These products are sold under several different brands in several different retail stores.”

An email from the group to customers said the 100g pots and smaller 25g pots supplied with the pizzas were potentially contaminated.

The notice said: “At Domino’s Pizza, the quality of our products and the safety of our customers are the highest priority, especially when it comes to allergens.

“We have become aware that some of our Garlic & Herb and Honey Mustard Dips may contain traces of peanut.

“If you are allergic to peanuts, please discard the dips and do not consume them. If you are not allergic to peanuts, no further action is required.

Domino’s said it found traces of peanuts in its Garlic-Herb Dip and Honey-Mustard Dip.

“We apologize for any concerns and inconvenience this issue may cause. »

A Domino’s spokesperson said: “This weekend we discovered that certain batches of Domino’s Pizza Garlic & Herb and Honey & Mustard dips contained traces of peanut which may pose a risk to those with peanut allergies.

“We have removed all of these dips from sale and are asking all customers who have people with peanut allergies in their household to not consume and instead discard any of these dips that they have at home.”

“Domino’s takes food safety very seriously and we are working urgently with our supplier to understand how this happened and ensure it does not happen again.

“There will be some disruption to the supply of dips in the coming days while we wait for new supplies to arrive and appreciate customers’ understanding during this time.”
